This course explores intercultural communication by examininga variety of cultural groups and their values, both regionally and internationally. We will examine the behaviorial norms and linguistic identifiers associated with such concepts as nationality, ethnicity, regionalism, gender, age, social class, ability cultures and subcultures. This will help a manager to deal with a diverse social environment and build an awareness of a ‘barrier-free’ culture. We shall also look at such phenomena as stereotyping, taboos, non-verbal communication, media, discrimination, individualism and group dynamics. In addition, we will do diversity training to accommodate various personalities and learning styles in the workplace.
